Saengerfest 2003

Forgive us for tooting our Alphorns just a little bit.  The Edmonton Swiss Men's Choir traveled to New Glarus, Wisconsin during the weekend of June 12th and competed in Sängerfest 2003. The men came away with two gold medals; one for Männerchor and one for Jodelchor.

The choir, under the direction of Elizabeth Lesoway Anderson, had prepared well and hoped for the Männerchor gold.  The Jodelchor gold was a complete surprise, as was the adjudicated score of 97/100. The choir stayed in Madison, as accommodations in New Glarus were limited.  Most of the activities took place in New Glarus and the actual competition took place in the Monroe Performing Arts Center at the Monroe High School.  The town of New Glarus is a picturesque Swiss village.

Our hosts put on a wonderful Sängerfest and each of the participating groups took a turn at entertaining. Wherever singers gathered, they would break into song.  Even on the Monday, when a small part of the choir visited Frank Lloyd Wright Center, a short impromptu concert burst forth.  The compliments flowed from the other diners at the restaurant.  An exhausted but happy troupe returned to Edmonton.  We give thanks for the ongoing support of the Edmonton Swiss community.
