A few Edmonton Swiss Society members headed south for the annual Landsgemeinde in Erskine/Stettler (Buffalo Lake). Most of the ESMC singers were unable to attend, due to their departure on the Swiss Tour 2001 a few days later. There was a good turn-out of members from Central Alberta and Calgary. Saturday after lunch, the activities started with games for the children and many tried their luck with the crossbow. Then, it was time for a communal BBQ and, among the assortment of sausages and meat, bratwurst, Schueblig and Cervelat were recognized. We had a thunderstorm around supper time but it could not prevent us from eating our tasty sausages. Later in the evening, the Wildrose Yodel Club was well received with their show program. They presented a number of Volkslieder and Yodel (some with garden hose). Also, a dancing group presented traditional Swiss folk dances. And with dusk approaching, singing and talking around campfires continued until well after midnight. It was my second Landsgemeinde and there will be many, many more to come. Claudia Farner
